Collar

With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and knit 90 (90, 90, 94, 94) sts around neck opening. Work in k2, p2 rib until piece measures 5½" (14 cm) from pick-up row, ending with a WS row. With RS facing, BO all sts using the tubular double rib BO method (see Techniques).

Buttonband

With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and knit 98 (102, 110, 114, 122) sts along left front edge. Work in k2, p2 rib for 7 rows. With RS facing, BO all sts in patt.

Buttonhole Band

With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and knit 98 (102, 110, 114, 122) sts along right front edge. Work k2, p2 rib for 3 rows, beg and ending with a WS row.

BUTTONHOLE ROW: (RS) Work 6 (5, 6, 5, 6) sts in patt, [work a 3-st one-row buttonhole (see Techniques), work until there are 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) sts on right needle after buttonhole] 6 times, work a 3–st one-row buttonhole, work in patt to end—7 buttonholes completed.

Work in rib patt for 3 more rows, ending with a WS row. With RS facing, BO all sts in patt.

Weave in all loose ends. Using sewing needle and thread, sew five buttons to the RS of the left front buttonband, opposite buttonholes. Sew the rem two buttons to the WS of the left front buttonband, opposite buttonholes, so the buttons will show on the RS when the collar is folded back as shown.
